Certificate in Community Organizing and Congregational Leadership

NEXT Church, Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary, and Metro IAF have teamed up for a third year to offer a Certificate in Community Organizing and Congregational Leadership
 
This certificate program consists of a one-week intensive in-person training followed by a six-month distance learning cohort to integrate the training into your work. The program is
open to clergy, laypeople, community leaders, seminarians, and others interested in organizing and community engagement.

PROGRAM AIMS
  • Teach clergy and lay leaders to apply the basic universals and disciplines of community organizing ​to their ministry contexts.
  • Provide tools for those engaged in the work of congregational transformation,​ new church development, and ​neighborhood/organizational revitalization.
  • Guide participants in theological reflection about systemic change.
  • Spark leaders’ imaginations in the effective use of technology as an organizing tool.
  • Nurture participants as they establish for themselves new patterns of leadership.
  • Connect leaders to an established support network.
COST
Participants have the option of participating in the full certificate program or the week-long intensive training only.
 
Certificate Program (Week-Long & Distance Learning): $1,299

  • 1st payment: $450 (due upon registration)
  • 2nd payment: $449 (due October 15, 2019)
  • 3rd paymentL $400 (due January 15, 2020)

SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are available on a first come, first serve basis. The scholarship is 50% off the cost of the training. To request a scholarship, please email info@nextchurch.net. If you receive one, you will be given a code that will automatically discount the ticket amount on Eventbrite.
 
ACCOMODATIONS
Participants are responsible for booking their own housing. There are many hotels within walking distance of Christ Lutheran Church, located on the Inner Harbor. The Center in Baltimore, a mission ministry of the Baltimore Presbytery, also has hostel-style bunk accommodations available for a lower cost.
