275+ people from more than 26 BUILD institutions and partner organizations showed up in Annapolis in the bitter cold to demonstrate their strong support for their justice-impacted friends and neighbors.
Leaders shared stories and heard from public officials who committed to passing the Fair Chance Housing (SB937/HB1073) and Clean Slate (HB360/SB483) bills this legislative session, bills which will help provide second chances for people coming home from jail and prison, reducing barriers to housing, employment, and stability. Leaders also advocated for the bills' passage with delegates and senators on their way to session.
As of March, The Clean Slate Act and Fair Chance in Housing Act have passed the Maryland Senate, with both bills now awaiting approval from the House.
