Orange County Justice United leaders packed the room at the May 20, 2025, County Commissioner public hearing, pushing for critical home repair funding to preserve existing affordable housing.
Leaders are steadily building momentum toward securing the $2 million needed to eliminate the two-year, 200-household waitlist for low-income home repairs. Due to the current backlog, even emergency repair funds are delayed, taking more than 18 months to reach those in urgent need.
At its core, this fight is about recognition and legacy: ensuring that the leadership and contributions of Black residents who built and shaped our community are not erased by the tide of gentrification. Home repair funding is a vital tool for stabilizing long-standing neighborhoods and helping homeowners pass on the value of their homes to the next generation.
