Metro IAF and NC IAF hosted a workshop on Civil Rights Unionism led by Labor South and Professor Robert Korstad, Duke University historian (retired) at the Metro IAF Organizers Meeting June 14-16 in North Carolina. Through the workshop, organizers and leaders learned the history of NC Civil Rights Unionism through the case studies of African-American and some white textile and tobacco workers organizing in the 1940s to make change, including aligning with religious and community allies. This history provided inspiration for our joint organizing with NC workers and unions. 50+ Metro IAF Organizers, NC IAF clergy leaders, Unite/Here Organizing Director, and several IAF clergy leaders attend the workshop.
