Mayor Zohran Mamdani made clear commitments to Metro-IAF NY (The Bronx First, East Brooklyn Congregations, Manhattan Together and Queens Power) to build 100% affordable housing, repair NYCHA, confront the mental health crisis, and act now to keep communities safe. Metro-IAF NY is at the table, working with Mayor Mamdani and his top staff to deliver on Metro IAF’s priorities as well as organizing the power needed to ensure these commitments are kept.

The Bronx First had its first meeting with Mayor Mamdani on March 9th discussing the latest updates and securing the most recent commitments. The Mayor is working on a date to report on the status of his 100 day commitments and has agreed to attend the Bronx First assembly in early fall.

On March 24th, Metro IAF NY and Mayor Mamdani announced the first site from a list of city-owned properties to be developed as 100% affordable housing. This project will bring approximately 140 new affordable units to vacant lots on the 700 block of Myrtle Avenue. Located in the Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, the site is a top priority for EBC and Metro IAF NY, given the complete loss of affordable housing in many gentrified Central Brooklyn communities. Mayor Mamdani is also working to keep his commitment to Metro IAF by working to fast-track development of 100% affordable housing. On the same day, he also announced a new program to reduce the pre-development timeline of city-owned properties to create 100% affordable housing, in many cases by 18 months or more by prequalifying not for profits and MWBE’s.
