On May 3rd, almost 100 leaders from MT, Bronx First/ South Bronx Churches, East Brooklyn Congregations and others from Metro IAF NY joined Congressman Ritchie Torres to celebrate Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani's commitment to fix New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) by expanding ombnyc.com, which has already helped 32K+ families get real mold and leak repairs. Mayor Mamdani announced a $40 million expansion to the Ombudsman Call Center (OCC), to ensure NYCHA residents’ demands for thousands of critical repairs are completed in New York City Housing Authority properties. 

This is among other commitments Metro IAF NY has received from Mayor Mamdani, who met with Metro IAF NY on June 1st to measure progress and strategize on goals regarding the NYCHA, affordable housing, address the mental health crisis, and other local issues.

Commitments

  • FIX New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)
    • $40 million expansion to the Ombudsman Call Center (OCC)
    • Working with Metro IAF to develop strong accountability measures at private conversion RAD PACT developments. 
  • BUILD 100% AFFORDABLE
    • $2 Billion increase in capital funding to develop affordable housing. 
    • Build 100% affordable on large scale and scattered city-owned sites
    • Strategize and act with Metro IAF to develop more than 20,000 affordable units each year using city’s commitments to leverage private sector and federal resources. 
  • ADDRESS MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS
    • Commence initial planning this year to start development of 2 crisis stabilization centers in each borough.
  • ACT ON LOCAL ISSUES
    • Hold Department of Education accountable for responses to Metro IAF’’s local school concerns. 

Metro IAF NY will organize local actions over the summer to build pressure to fulfill its agenda. This began with June 11th Aqueduct listening blitz, the June 26th Bard Early College High School and June 28th RAD PACT actions.
