60+ Leaders Turnout for Affordable Housing at GFBC
More than 60 leaders representing over 23 congregations, neighborhood associations, and non-profits came together on December 12 to support Greenwood Forest Baptist Church's campus rezoning to include an affordable housing development. Learn more about the development plans here.
Thursday night showcased the strong network of partnerships and supporters cultivated over the past five years through this initiative. Speaker after speaker voiced their support for the development, including representatives from key partners: The Carying Place, DHIC, and the Taylor Family YMCA. Additional speakers from supporting organizations, such as Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, and ONE Wake, also spoke in favor of the development.

Criticism was minimal, with some technical suggestions offered and just one speaker expressing clear opposition to the project.
This rezoning hearing marks a pivotal milestone in Greenwood Forest Baptist Church’s dedicated efforts to create affordable housing on its campus—a vision that ONE Wake has proudly supported from the beginning.
This initiative not only addresses a critical need for affordable housing but also serves as a beacon of what’s possible when faith-based and non-profit organizations reimagine their assets for the greater good. Its success will undoubtedly inspire similar efforts and advance Cary's journey toward becoming a more inclusive and welcoming community for all.
The rezoning will go next to the Planning and Zoning Board and is expected to return to the Cary Town Council for a vote in 3-4 months. Please keep your eyes open for updates and more opportunities to support!
