Close to 200 ONE Wake leaders packed the Wake County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday night to call for nearly a 100% increase in affordable housing funding and the identification of 100 acres of county, city, and state-owned land for affordable development. The turnout was so strong they spilled over into the overflow room!

This action followed from ONE Wake's 1,000-person October candidate assembly at Watts Chapel MBC. While nearly every Raleigh City Council candidate attended the candidate assembly, not one candidate for the Wake County Board of Commissioners was in attendance. After the October candidate assembly, ONE Wake members committed to attend an early meeting of the Board of Commissioners in 2025 to ensure their support for their affordable housing priorities.

The Wake County Commissioners will likely need to rely on a housing bond to substantially increase county funding for affordable housing, which would be the county's first. ONE Wake leaders will be organizing meetings with the Commissioners this spring to discuss this issue further.
