United Power's Reclaiming Chicago campaign continued this year. With 80 homes underway, 46 Reclaiming Chicago homes have sold, and families are now living in the homes created; 34 more homes are underway, and the majority are set to sell before the end of the year.

This past Spring, a 12-month organizing campaign led by United Power members culminated with the Chicago City Council committing over 500 city-owned vacant lots selected explicitly for the Reclaiming effort. With this commitment, we will be working to build and rehab 125 homes each year.

To build on these lots and others at this scale, United Power members and leaders have focused on growing commitments to the Reclaiming Chicago NFP fund, which has $22.285 million in commitments to date. Most recently, they held their second annual Reclaiming Chicago NFP Funders' Forum to recognize current funders, invite new potential funders, and brief them all on the progress to date. Two new homeowners shared their stories of what their homes have meant to them, with one of the homeowners sharing the pride of her daughter having her first sleepover with a friend since she now had her own bedroom in their new home. We also celebrated a new $3 million commitment from Schreiber Philanthropy. Shortly after the Forum, the Baum Family Fund made a $250,000 commitment.
